Enhanced backups are managed by Backup and DR Service. Backups are stored in a backup vault managed by Backup and DR, and backup plans manage the backup and restore settings. This provides immutable backups that can't be deleted and are independent of the source project. For more information about how backups work with Backup and DR, see Backup and DR overview.
Before you begin
Ensure you have enabled the APIs for Filestore and Backup and DR Service. For the list of required roles and permissions, see Prerequisites for using Filestore Enhanced Backups.
To create enhanced on-demand backups and allow scheduling you need a backup vault to store your enhanced backups and a backup plan with scheduling configuration.
Schedule an enhanced backup
You can schedule an enhanced backup for a Filestore instance by associating a backup plan with your instance. The backup plan has the schedule for backing up your data periodically.
Console
In Google Cloud console, go to the Filestore Backups page.
In the Enhanced backups section, click Schedule backup.
In the Select instance to back up step, click Select instance and choose the Filestore instance from the table.
Click Next.
In the Select backup plan step, click Select and choose the backup plan from the table.
(Optional) To add the default backup plan to the list, check the Add a default backup plan checkbox. Adding the plan doesn't create the backup plan, it only adds the plan configuration to the list. The plan is created and attached to the instance after the backup schedule configuration is completed.
Click Schedule backup.

Create an enhanced on-demand backup
Creating an enhanced on-demand backups is available only for instances with associated backup plans.
Console
In Google Cloud console, go to the Filestore Backups page.
Select the Filestore instance you want to back up. The table lists only instances with an associated backup plan.
Click Create enhanced on-demand backup.
Choose the backup rule from the list to define the backup deletion time.
Click Create.

View backup plan details
To view backup plan details, follow these steps:
Console
In Google Cloud console, go to the Filestore Instances page.
Click the instance ID and go to Backups tab.
In the Enhanced (managed by Backup and DR) section, click Show details to view the details of the backup plan.

To list the backup plans using Google Cloud CLI, follow the instructions in List backup plans.
Change a backup plan
To change a backup plan using Filestore, follow these steps:
Console
In Google Cloud console, go to the Filestore Instances page.
Click the instance ID and go to Backups tab.
In the Enhanced (managed by Backup and DR) section, click to remove the already assigned backup plan.
To confirm backup plan removal, enter
removein the input field and click Remove backup plan.To assign a new backup plan, follow the steps in schedule an enhanced backup.
Backup and DR Service
You can change the backup plan associated with your Filestore instance using Backup and DR Service. For detailed instructions on switching a backup plan see Change the backup plan applied to a Filestore instance.
View backups
To view enhanced backups and their details, follow these steps:
Console
In Google Cloud console, go to the Filestore Backups page.
Click the Enhanced tab.
Select the instance and backup vault from the list to display backups.
gcloud
