Feature requests and product ideas

Looker has a feedback system in the product where you can submit feature requests, also known as product ideas. This page describes the steps for submitting a product idea.

Submit a product idea

Follow these steps to submit product feedback:

  1. Next to your profile picture, click ? Help.
  2. Click Product Idea?.
  3. To upvote existing product ideas, click the thumbs-up icon next to a product idea.
  4. To submit a new product idea, click Make a suggestion.

When making a suggestion, provide as much context and information as possible about the problem you're having and what you're trying to accomplish. For example, the feedback "I want to control the width of lines on graphs" is less helpful than describing your goal. Some people might want thicker lines for displaying charts on televisions, while others might want to use line width to show confidence intervals. Try to include the following information when submitting a request:

  • Prioritize describing the problem you're having, rather than the solution that you think will solve it.
  • Describe what kinds of users on your instance are having the problem. For example, admins might have different goals than LookML developers or dashboard viewers.
  • Upload screenshots of current behavior.

What happens after you submit feedback?

A new product idea will have the status Awaiting Feedback. If the product team determines that the idea is a priority, they will change the status to Evaluating/Planned. Occasionally, the product team will edit the language of your product idea, either to make it easier for other users to find it and add their thumbs up, or to add information about existing workarounds.
