Use the Device Catalog to find, sort and delve into devices in the Developer Device Platform. The Device Catalog helps you identify target devices for development, testing and production.

Before you begin

These steps assume that you have already created a Google Cloud project, completed the setup steps in the Developer Device Platform Quickstart guide, and authenticated with gcloud in the terminal.

Tip: Append --help to any gcloud command to see detailed usage information.

List devices in the Developer Device Platform

1. List the devices in your Google Cloud project:

   gcloud beta device-run devices list
   

   The output is a list of devices, resembling:

2. From the list, identify the device models and operating system versions suitable for your uses and capture their IDs.

Filter devices in the Developer Device Platform

1. If you know what device models and operating system versions you want to work with, you can filter the list of devices to show only those devices. For example, to list only physical Android devices with an operating system version of 35, run:

   gcloud beta device-run devices list --filter="HARDWARE_TYPE=PHYSICAL AND OS_VERSION=35 AND PLATFORM=ANDROID"
   

   The output is a list of devices matching the filter, for example:

2. Either record the ID(s) or continue to filter through the list for suitable devices.

Filter and format devices in the Developer Device Platform

1. In addition to filtering devices, you can also specify the format of the output:

   gcloud beta device-run devices list --filter 'manufacturer=google AND formFactor=tablet' --format 'table(ID, AVAILABILITY)'
   

   The output is a list of devices matching the filter and in the specified format, for example:

   ID            AVAILABILITY
   tangorpro-33  HIGH
   tangorpro-36  MEDIUM
   

2. Either capture the ID or continue to filter and format the list to find suitable devices.

Describe devices in the Developer Device Platform

1. Now that you have a list of devices, you can describe a specific device to view detailed information about it:

   gcloud beta device-run devices describe DEVICE_ID
   

2. So taking tokay-35 as an example, you will receive output resembling:

   availability: HIGH
   capacity: HIGH
   form: PHYSICAL
   formFactor: PHONE
   id: tokay-35
   manufacturer: Google
   modelCode: tokay
   name: Pixel 9
   platform: Android
   screenDensity: 420

3. Use these details to settle upon the device and operating system version for your uses and remember to record the device ID(s).
