Struct EnableReadHedgingOption (3.12.0-rc)

Enable experimental request hedging for ReadObject() streams.

When enabled, opening a download races the initial request against one or more delayed, duplicate ("hedged") requests, and the first to respond wins. A read that stalls mid-stream, that is, one that takes longer than ReadHedgeDelayOption, is raced the same way against duplicate requests resuming from the stream's current offset. This reduces tail latency at the cost of additional requests.

The client records two OpenTelemetry counters through the global meter provider in effect when the client is created: storage.read_hedging.hedges_dispatched, the number of hedged requests issued, and storage.read_hedging.hedge_won, the number of reads completed by a hedged request instead of the original one. Nothing is recorded unless the application installs a meter provider before creating the client.
